Top places to see in the world 2010...NOTTINGHAM!

Top places to see in the world 2010...NOTTINGHAM!

01.12.2009

Want to get ahead of yourself in respect to the places that people think you should see in 2010? Then you HAVE to be at Fireseeds! Today The Times reports...

"Nottingham has somehow made it into the top 10 tourist destinations in the world for 2010. The East Midlands city joins Reykjavik, Oslo and Delhi on a list compiled by Dorling Kindersley. Attractions, according to the guidebook publisher, are Nottingham Contemporary, the city's new £20m art museum, and the fact that Ridley Scott's Robin Hood film opens in May."

So what are you waiting for? Get the Nottingham stop in the books in the first week of the year and then start planning those other trips (Ryanair do cheap flights to Oslo!)

It's nearly here...

What's the remotest place on the earth?

What's the remotest place on the earth?

11.11.2009

How would you answer this question?

Somewhere in the Amazon? The middle of the Sahara? Northern Siberia?

Interestingly enough some of the places that seem furthest from our reach are closer than they seem and the actual remotest place doesn't seem as far away as it really is.

Tibet. Really?

Yes, according to this little piece of research.

Fire is a powerful thing...we want to see the fire of Jesus reach the remotest places of which Tibet is the tip! Will you put time aside to pray for Tibet, the remotest place on the face of the earth?

What is Fire?

What is Fire?

02.11.2009

Samuel Logan Brengle was an early leader in The Salvation Army, he had some inspiring thoughts on what fire is. We figured we'd pass them on to you as you think about this year's conference and what it means for you to be on fire!

"What is Fire? It is love, it is faith, it is hope, it is passion, purpose, determination, it is utter devotion, it is divine discontent with formality, ceremonialism, lukewarmness, indifference, sham, noise, parade and spiritual death. It is singleness of eye, and a consecration unto death. It is God the Holy Ghost burning in and through a humble, holy faithful man."

So Becky, how was 2009 for you?

So Becky, how was 2009 for you?

29.09.2009

Becky Evans was at Fireseeds 2009 half way through her final year at Birmingham University. We asked if she'd give us a rundown on why she went and what she learnt...

Death to Mediocrity’ was the tagline for Fireseeds 2009. It was the first time that I had seen so many different people in one place who were all so eager to learn from and follow God. I remember saying at the time that God really grew for me at Fireseeds because I was meeting with and hearing from so many different types of people from different backgrounds. All of whom had witnessed God at work not only in their lives but also in the lives of those around them. As a fairly new Christian the sheer amount of stories, the variety of people and different expressions of their passion for God really blew me away. Looking back however it wasn’t the differences between the people that struck me but what they had in common - God; the same God that I had come to know. It was clear that I was sharing the time with people who, if God called them, would follow Him. And it wasn’t because they were super spiritual beings either but because Jesus had been all the things they couldn’t be; He was their courage, their passion and their determination because no one cares more about His people than Jesus. I began to realise from that point onwards that it wasn’t just me and the bubble of people who I knew who God was passionate about but it was all people at all times. He was much bigger than I first thought and much more passionate about His people than I had realised.

Through Fireseeds I was inspired to dream bigger than I had before. I want to be a person who will go when Jesus calls me, not because I have the passion or courage to alone, but because I have a God who has infinitely more passion for His people than I do and infinitely more strength to live out that passion. ‘Death to Mediocrity’ wasn’t about a group of people and their values but it was about the death of being satisfied with the unsatisfying because they knew the Living God and had been resurrected to His passion. Once God gets hold of you in that passion its impossible not to follow Him!

Becky graduated in June and is now spending a year on the
Agapé Intern Programme in Birmingham.
